These two life-size pop culture sculptures with be featured at the 2nd annual Tulsa Pop Culture Expo that will take place November 2-4, 2018 at the Tulsa Renaissance Hotel.
One of the partners of the Tulsa Pop Culture Expo is OKPOP, a new museum that is being developed in the Tulsa Arts District and will showcase Oklahoma’s contribution to all areas of pop culture.
OKPOP’s Curator of Comic Books, Dexter Nelson II, discussed the connection of Iron Man and the Avengers to Tulsa history. “Many fans are familiar with the Iron Man Hulkbuster armor from the Avengers movies, but what fans don’t know is that Iron Man has roots in Oklahoma.”
He explained, “Archie Goodwin, a Tulsan and graduate of Will Rogers High School, wrote and edited numerous titles for both Marvel and DC comics. One of his earlier writing assignments for Marvel was to write the premiere issues of Iron Man’s own monthly comic. Goodwin is credited with writing issues #1-#28. It was from this series that the Hulkbuster armor would first appear in issue #304.”
